Overview
Ryse Health operates a physician-led interdisciplinary care model that combines low-cost, in-person clinic visits with tech-enabled virtual care to treat Type 2 diabetes. Its program uses continuous glucose monitors, a custom app, day-to-day analytics and coaching, and a multidisciplinary team of endocrinologists, diabetes educators, dietitians, behavioral therapists, and health coaches. Ryse reports strong clinical outcomes, with an average 2-point HbA1c decrease in 90 days (up to 50% better than virtual-only solutions) and a 4.95 out of 5 average third-party patient rating. The company was founded in 2021 and currently operates clinics in Arlington, VA, and Baltimore. Ryse plans to use new funding to grow its team, strengthen business operations, partner with like-minded organizations, and expand into new markets. The funding round supports scaling its day-to-day support, long-term monitoring, and coaching capabilities to broaden patient reach. Ryse Health is a Baltimore, MD- and Arlington, Va.-based healthtech startup that provides tech-enabled office-based and virtual care to patients with type 2 diabetes. Its technology platform includes a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and a custom app to synthesize data, support self-management, and facilitate communication between patients and clinicians. The care team comprises health coaches, endocrinologists, registered dieticians (RDs), certified diabetes care and education specialists (CDCESs), and licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) who help patients navigate psychosocial barriers to chronic disease. The company was co-founded by Erin Kane, MD (co‑founder and chief medical officer), and Richard Gurley, MBA (co‑founder and chief executive officer). Dr. Kane is Harvard- and Hopkins-trained and has led care-delivery redesign initiatives including work on the Hopkins Capacity Command Center and a GW COVID-19 remote monitoring program; she also has experience as a McKinsey management consultant. Mr. Gurley previously held leadership roles at Evolent Health and WelbeHealth and has advised several healthcare growth companies. In December 2022 Ryse Health raised $3.4M in seed funding led by W Health Ventures with participation from LifeBridge Health, Healthworx, Shantanu Agrawal, John Wray and Kelly Close.
