Sakana is an AI startup founded in July 2023 by former Google researchers. The roughly 20-person company focuses on AI development and says it will work with strategic partners to address challenges facing Japanese industry and society. That positioning has attracted significant support in Japan. Sakana previously indicated plans to raise over $100 million from firms including Nvidia, New Enterprise Associates, Khosla Ventures, and Lux Capital. Financially, Sakana announced a roughly ¥30 billion (about $214 million) Series A that values the company at $1.5 billion. Co‑founder David Ha said the company will accelerate collaboration with strategic partners to tackle pressing industrial and societal problems.
