Samudra Oceans develops AI-powered static monitoring robots equipped with sensors and cameras to measure water temperature, salinity, and turbidity and provide real-time crop insights on a farmer’s phone or tablet. The robots are designed to reduce costly boat trips, manual labour, and fuel overheads, enabling seaweed farms to scale and achieve better economies of scale. The company is currently running trial projects in Cornwall and Norfolk and is active in the UK and Scotland, with a project underway in Jamaica. Samudra plans to launch schemes in India and Sri Lanka as it works to provide a global use case. Founded by Joyeeta Das and Alex Facey, the team positions the technology as a tool to grow sustainable, climate-positive sea farming and support coastal economies.
