SB Energy is a development and execution partner focused on constructing multi-gigawatt data-center campuses and the renewable and other energy infrastructure that supports them. The company is central to Stargate, an initiative to scale AI and energy infrastructure in the United States, and is currently advancing several multi-gigawatt sites, with initial facilities expected to begin entering service in 2026. Its flagship project is a 1.2-gigawatt data-center in Milam County, Texas, which it will build and operate for OpenAI under a long-term lease. SB Energy will also become a major customer of OpenAI, adopting the company’s APIs and deploying ChatGPT across its workforce. To finance its buildout, SB Energy secured $1 billion in new equity—split evenly between SoftBank Group and OpenAI—and an additional $800 million of redeemable preferred equity from Ares. The fresh capital will fund land acquisition, grid interconnections, and new generation resources designed to minimize water usage and protect Texas ratepayers while creating thousands of construction jobs. These developments position SB Energy as a key player in delivering the massive compute and energy capacity required for the coming wave of AI applications.
