Scape Technologies has developed a Vision Engine and a Visual Positioning Service API/SDK that create and query large-scale 3D maps from ordinary images and video to deliver location accuracy far beyond GPS. The technology is initially targeting augmented reality applications and is also positioned for mobility, logistics and robotics use cases. Scape says its Vision Engine scales horizontally to hundreds of servers, enabling city-sized coverage; the SDK is available within London for select partners. The company emerged from stealth with a team of more than 30 people and was a member of Entrepreneur First’s cohort 7. Co-founders Edward Miller (CEO) and Huub Heijnen (CTO) bring mapping, interactive imagery and robotics research experience. Over the next five years Scape plans to develop what it calls “ubiquitous spatial intelligence,” expanding devices’ ability to understand where they are and what’s around them using only a camera.
