Overview
Screach.TV develops technology to make TVs and large screens interactive via mobile apps, enabling venue owners to offer personalized, interactive TV channels. Its product turns screens from background noise into an entertainment instrument and rewards customers with offers to keep them in the venue longer and bring them back. The company has deployed its technology in over 100 pubs from Newcastle to Exeter. Led by CEO Paul Rawlings, Screach.TV is based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. It raised $2.5m and intends to use the funds to accelerate rollout across pubs and bars in the UK and internationally. The company is currently in talks with some content partners. ScreenReach makes the Screach app and accompanying Screach platform for iPhone and Android that enable brands and developers to create interactive smartphone experiences tied to television, billboards and other digital signage. It uses an XML-based scripting language, ScreachXML, to enable a write-once development process across supported smartphone OSes. Users enter a unique pin to unlock two-way experiences such as games, quizzes, offers and coupons; the app uses a check-in analogy, awards points and tracks interactions to provide data to customers. The platform can push updates to Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare and is pitched at broadcasters seeking a 'third screen' experience. ScreenReach faces overlap with services such as Foursquare, GetGlue and Miso. The Newcastle, UK-based company says the new funds will be used to spearhead global growth. Screen Reach (branded Screach) is a social TV platform that layers interactive experiences on top of television content to drive engagement rather than simple check‑ins. The product lets viewers play along with shows (for example, game‑show rewards) and can automatically post activity to social networks as a side effect. It can also connect to real‑world locations and events—Screen Reach tested a museum integration where users entered codes to unlock additional audio, video and informational content. The company has developed ScreachXML, a markup language intended to let designers without programming experience create interactive content quickly, with those experiences aggregated in the Screach “super app.” Screach today runs on iPhone and Android and the company is working to add support for other devices. Financially, Screen Reach has raised $420,000 in funding and was part of the Difference Engine incubator; it is now seeking app designers and content partners and has no major distribution deals announced yet.
