Overview
Sentante is a Lithuanian medical-device company that has developed a teleoperated robotic system (built by UAB Inovatyvi Medicina) to perform entire endovascular interventions remotely. The system uses the same medical devices as manual procedures and provides near-natural haptic force feedback by sensing operators' movements to replicate catheter and guidewire resistance. Remote operation eliminates the need for physicians to work beside X-ray sources and wear heavy lead aprons, addressing occupational hazards and aiming to reduce medical errors. Sentante plans to initiate a first-in-human clinical study in 2024 and ultimately enable physicians to perform endovascular treatment from remote hospitals to avoid patient transfers. The company will use the proceeds from its recent financing to run the planned clinical trial and prepare for commercial launch in targeted international markets. The technology targets a large market—over six million endovascular procedures annually—where current practice has remained largely unchanged for decades.
