Seren Photonics has developed a novel processing technique intended to increase the efficiency of high-brightness (HB) LEDs and reduce heat generation under normal operation. The technology, developed by Professor Tao Wang at the University of Sheffield, targets large white-light HB LED markets including backlighting for laptops and TVs, signs and displays, and domestic, architectural and street lighting. The company is led by CEO Dr Carl Griffiths and Chairman Dr Godfrey Ainsworth. Seren plans to use newly raised funds to purchase key capital equipment for HB LED pilot-scale development. It will also create a specialist engineering team to transfer its processes to commercial manufacturing partners. The company is based in Sheffield, UK.
