Set.fm
Austin, Texas, United States
Overview
Set.fm offers a mobile app and recording workflow that streams audio from a venue soundboard, converts and encodes the performance with metadata in real time, and uploads/transcodes so fans can download recordings seconds after a show ends. Musicians select a recording solution (iPad, iPhone, or desktop), cover production and venue fees, and hit record at the start of a performance. The service aims to provide higher-quality recordings than phone-captured audio (founder cites venues around 120 dB vs iPhone limits near 95 dB). Recordings are priced roughly $5–$20 and revenue is split between the artist and Set.fm after transaction fees; about 14% of audiences have purchased recordings. Founded in 2011 and bootstrapped until this round, the company is available in about 60 U.S. venues and is expanding into Canada. Set.fm plans to use new funding for technical development and marketing expansion and is intentionally not prioritizing video to preserve instant availability.
