Shakepay is a Montreal-based technology company that enables customers to easily buy and earn bitcoin through financial applications. The company offers products including the Shakepay Visa prepaid card, launched in December 2021 to 180,000 early-access customers and giving bitcoin cashback rewards settled to users' Shakepay bitcoin balances. Shakepay says it surpassed $6 billion in total volume in 2021, grew 381% that year to more than 900,000 customers, and expanded its team from 20 to 75 employees. The company’s stated mission is to make it easy for Canadians to build wealth with bitcoin and to accelerate widespread adoption. Shakepay plans to use new capital to scale the business and launch additional products that increase Canadian access and exposure to the digital economy. Prior to this round the company had raised roughly $1M CAD to date.
