Overview

Shedul is a SaaS-enabled marketplace that offers a free SaaS product for salons and spas to manage bookings, point-of-sale, customer records, inventory and reporting. It runs the consumer-facing Fresha.com marketplace and mobile app to enable online bookings and automated marketing via integrations with Instagram, Facebook and Google. The company monetizes by taking a commission on each booking made through its marketplace while keeping its core software free. Shedul reports 8 million appointments booked on its platform each month, at a value of more than $270 million, and says active merchants are growing at an average rate of 20% quarter-on-quarter. Its merchant base spans more than 120 countries, mainly the U.S., U.K., Australia and Canada, and the company says it is on track to process $6 billion worth of appointment bookings by the end of 2019. Launched in 2015, Shedul has raised $32 million to date. Shedul offers a free SaaS platform that helps salons and spas manage appointment bookings, point-of-sale, customer records, inventory, and financial reporting. It also operates the Fresha.com consumer marketplace, which generates revenue by charging merchants a small percentage fee on bookings. The company says it has merchants in more than 120 countries, primarily in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada, and processes about 6 million appointments per month growing roughly 20% month-on-month. Shedul projects it will process $3.5 billion in appointment bookings by the end of 2018 and reports some merchants see up to 80% of bookings via its marketplace. The platform includes mobile apps, real-time booking integrations with Instagram, Facebook and Google, in-app payments, and intelligent features to help merchants grow revenue. The company intends to use the new capital for product development and to support continued rollout of its marketplace offering. Shedul offers free scheduling and booking software targeted at the salon and spa industry, aiming to digitize businesses still using pen and paper. The company supports about 40,000 merchants across more than 120 countries and reports $1.5 billion in annual GMV. Growth has been almost entirely organic, with CEO William Zeqiri saying they spent just $5,000 on Google ads. Shedul operates from offices in Dubai and Warsaw and launched in 2015. The startup plans to expand its merchant base, build a two-sided marketplace, and introduce paid offerings to complement its booking technology.
