Overview
Shelf.io builds an AI-powered knowledge platform (MerlinAI) that plugs into a company’s information systems to surface answers and assist employees in real time. The software ingests data from systems like Salesforce, SharePoint, legacy knowledge-management platforms and Zendesk to provide answers to customer-service agents during conversations, power automated customer responses, and create a searchable company knowledge base. Shelf is initially focused on customer service and plans to target the sales market next, with additional verticals to follow. From July 2020 to July 2021 the company grew ARR 4x, reports 130% net dollar retention and says it has no churn. The company is about 100 people and hopes to double headcount by the end of the year and double again the following year. Shelf says the new capital will fund costly machine-learning and data-science hires to scale MerlinAI and reduce onboarding and training costs for customers. Shelf provides a SaaS platform that uses principles of human psychology to help teams surface and find their most important content quickly. Its proprietary technology lets users search inside documents and images and will soon suggest content they didn’t know existed. The product was built in consultation with Harvard librarians, knowledge management experts, change management specialists, and information architects. Led by founder and CEO Sedarius Perrotta, the platform aims to boost team productivity and performance by making resources discoverable in seconds. The company intends to use its recent funding to launch the platform and expand operations. Financial details disclosed include the $2.2M seed financing raised in 2017.
