Shift One operates a marketplace that matches employers with blue-collar workers and manages time, taxes, attendance, productivity and work orders. The platform emphasizes full schedules, cohesive teams and provides workers with benefits from day one, plus checking accounts and debit cards for unbanked employees. Since launching in 2019 the company has grown to 25,000 workers and serves about 50 clients across the U.S. and Colombia, including Amazon, NASCAR, Weee!, Mensajeros Urbanos and CES. Shift One is San Francisco–based with offices in Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Bogotá and Bucharest and operates in roughly 12 states. The startup says it is slightly profitable and reinvests profits into growth; revenue grew tenfold in 2020 from a small base. It plans to use new capital to expand into new markets, increase headcount and accelerate its technology roadmap.
