Overview

Shot Scope, founded in 2014 and headquartered in Edinburgh, builds GPS wearables and laser rangefinders plus a mobile app and web dashboard to help golfers access distances and analyse rounds. Its shot-tracking devices record over 100 statistics to help users understand their game and lower scores. Hundreds of thousands of golfers worldwide have used Shot Scope devices, and the company says it aims to deliver technology to over 60 million golfers. The app and web dashboard include many free-to-access features for users. Shot Scope plans to invest in infrastructure across North America and beyond during 2024 to support retail and distribution partners. The company is pursuing international expansion while continuing to develop its product and data offerings. Shot Scope Technologies develops performance-tracking hardware and companion apps that provide golfers with detailed data and an enhanced way to experience their game. The company says its tech is constantly improving and the apps deliver actionable insights to users. Shot Scope raised £1.6 million in its latest funding round, bringing total financing to £4.5 million and has also received £1 million in government grants. Investors in the recent round included high-net-worth individuals, the Scottish Investment Bank, Equity Gap and Old College Capital. Founder and CEO David Hunter said the funds will be used to scale manufacturing, marketing and sales, with a strong strategic focus on the US market. Hunter cited 30 million golfers in the US and nearly 5 million in the firm’s target market as the key opportunity. The company’s board includes Ken Lewandowski, Dr Bill Buckie, Ian Ritchie and Rob Jones. Shot Scope has developed patent-pending wearable technology that automatically collects scoring and statistical data as a golfer plays. Collected data is uploaded to the Shot Scope website or mobile app and presented as statistics, analytics and maps detailing every shot in a graphical user interface. The company targets the US and UK golf markets and planned a product launch at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando in January 2016. Founded in 2013 and based in Edinburgh, Shot Scope used the recent seed funding to advance product development and begin manufacturing. The funds are also earmarked to build the team ahead of commercial launch. The company had raised £415K in the reported seed round.
