Sightbox raised $2.4M in the reported round, bringing total funding to $4.2M. The company plans to use the capital to expand customer acquisition and to hire finance and operations staff. Backers in the round included Rogue Venture Partners, Portland Seed Fund, Jumpstart Foundry, Vista River Healthcare, G Ventures, Irish Angels and undisclosed U.S. angels. Sightbox provides a membership service for contact lens wearers that combines vision insurance, online retail, and customer service. The company markets its annual membership at $39 per month to individual contact lens users. Sightbox says its model generates new business for more than 50,000 local optometry businesses across the U.S. It plans to begin offering membership enrollment options through employers alongside traditional health and vision benefits.
