Overview
SleepyCat sells foam and latex mattresses and other sleep-wellness accessories direct to consumers, delivering mattresses vacuum-pressed in a small box. The company was started by Kabir Siddiq and is Mumbai-based. It offers benefits such as a 10-year warranty, a 30-night free trial and one-day deliveries in cities including Mumbai and Bangalore. SleepyCat says it has shipped over 10,000 products per month across categories. The firm competes with other D2C mattress brands such as Wakefit and The Sleep Company. Proceeds from its latest financing will be used to expand its mattress and sleep-wellness product portfolio. Sleepycat designs and sells mattresses online, offering memory foam, latex foam and waterproof variants delivered in compact boxed packaging to improve logistics. The company sells via its own website and Amazon and plans to expand to Flipkart and FirstCry. It operates a manufacturing plant in Mumbai (150 mattresses/day capacity) and a Kolkata facility for packaging and warehousing. Sleepycat was founded in August 2017 by Kabir Siddiq, an Indiana University alumnus who previously worked at Deutsche Bank. The business is currently selling about 1,500 mattresses per month with seasonal sales potentially rising to 3,000–4,000. Management says the company was profitable at the time of the investment and will use new funding to invest in technology, hire, develop new products and boost marketing.
