Overview
Slope is a Silicon Valley-based B2B payments platform that automates order-to-cash workflows for enterprise customers. Its product enables enterprises to manage transactions, accept online payments, and offer short-term financing options to buyers. The company’s underwriting infrastructure is powered by proprietary LLMs trained on banking transaction data and alternative public and social signals to categorize and enrich bank data and build risk profiles. Slope has invested in machine learning, data infrastructure, real-time monitoring and an active learning system to continuously retrain and improve models. Since launching in 2021 the company has remained lean with 24 employees and currently works with a handful of Fortune 500 customers, with more in the pipeline. Financially, Slope has raised a total of $252 million to date and plans to use the new funding to scale the team and operations to serve more large enterprises. Slope is a business-to-business payments platform that automates order-to-cash workflows for enterprise customers using AI-driven tools for checkout, risk assessment, payment reconciliation and cash management. The company launched in 2021 and was founded by Lawrence Lin Murata and Alice Deng. It recently introduced SlopeGPT, which Murata described as a payments risk model powered by GPT, and emphasizes AI as an invisible layer that automates payments processes. Slope has shifted its customer base from startups to mainly enterprise clients, including Fiserv. Volume and company revenue have increased 17x year-over-year. The company has also added a new CFO and plans to use recent funding to accelerate product development and win larger clients. Slope offers an API that enables businesses to provide buy now, pay later (BNPL) at checkout by automating underwriting, lending, collections, and merchant payouts. The company emphasizes a developer-centric integration that approves businesses in seconds and can be integrated in minutes. Slope says it now enables financing for over 2,500 businesses in the U.S. and Mexico, reports customers see average orders increase by 168%, and captures about 26% of total gross merchandise value on a marketplace. Over a recent six-month period the founders reported roughly 121% month-over-month growth and enterprise customer count grew more than 20x in a quarter, with a growing waitlist. The team is currently small (eight people) and plans to scale to about 30 employees in the next five months, using most new funding for hiring and scaling. The company also recently hired Ashish Jain as chief financial officer. Slope offers a buy‑now, pay‑later (BNPL) product that lets businesses offer installment payments at checkout while Slope handles underwriting, lending, debt collection and payout to merchants once goods ship. Merchants can get approved in seconds and enable customers to choose payment terms at checkout. The company launched in August after the founders pivoted during Y Combinator’s 2021 summer cohort; co‑founders are Alice Deng and Lawrence Murata. Slope says it has grown gross merchandise volume 15x in the last 30 days and has acquired merchant customers across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, India and Singapore. It is onboarding merchants from a waitlist and plans to add merchants from China, Brazil and Europe soon. The startup aims to build infrastructure for global cross‑border B2B transactions and scale its team and customer experience infrastructure with the new funding.
