Overview
SmartX develops open, easy-to-use hyperconverged infrastructure products that help enterprise customers modernize IT, improve performance, scalability and reduce TCO. The company emphasizes virtualization and distributed storage technologies and reports that roughly 70% of its team are senior R&D engineers from those domains. SmartX has been deployed across telecom, finance, manufacturing, energy, government and internet customers, including a China-largest hyperconverged deployment with 2,000+ nodes and over 24PB capacity for Unicom WoCloud. The firm was founded in 2013 and its three core founders have backgrounds at Nimbula, Microsoft Research Asia and Baidu; other team members come from VMware, EMC, Oracle, Huawei and similar companies. SmartX says it will use the new funding to build a North America R&D center and an innovation technology lab, recruit global technical talent, and increase brand, sales, channel and service investments. Gartner has listed SmartX among China’s five major hyperconvergence vendors, highlighting its specialized product focus. SmartX, founded in 2013, develops hyperconverged software (SMTX OS) and Halo appliances and distributed block storage to help enterprises build agile, scalable IT infrastructure. Its products emphasize high stability, high performance and openness, and SmartX has partnered with Intel to launch a 100μs ultra-low-latency hyperconverged solution and cooperated with Huawei and Sugon on domestic hardware-based infrastructure. The company serves finance, healthcare, large manufacturing, retail chains and real estate, with customers including Bank of Communications, Taikang Insurance, Guotai Junan, Haier, BOE, Evergrande, Korea's SBS and Cafe24. SmartX reports a market share ranking in the top three, a product repurchase rate exceeding 200%, and more than 70% of customers deploy its solutions in core production environments. Going forward, SmartX plans to deepen R&D in enterprise-cloud distributed storage and compute engines and accelerate expansion into container and edge-computing scenarios to support digital transformation and China’s "new infrastructure" initiatives.
