Snowball
399 Fremont St Unit 3102, San Francisco, California, 94105, United States
Overview
Snowball is a mobile application that presents a universal inbox overlay on Android, aggregating messages from Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Google Hangouts, SMS, Twitter, LINE, WeChat, Slack and others. The app pulls notifications out of the Android system rather than using each messaging provider’s authentication, and displays a floating “Chat Head”-style icon that shows new messages and launches the underlying apps. Snowball is launching Android-first because iOS does not allow the level of OS integration the app requires. The company plans to expand integrations to the “long tail” of messaging apps and aims to work directly with messaging providers in the future to display richer message content. The founders also describe a broader roadmap to build additional mobile products using the messaging and communication layer as a platform. Snowball has been in development since May 2014 and is available as a free download on Google Play; financially, the company recently closed a seed financing round.
