Overview
SolidEnergy develops anode-free lithium metal batteries and claims ultra-high energy density and safety (noted as 1200 Wh/L and 400 Wh/, in the announcement). The company’s two material platforms are a dual-layer electrolyte and an ultra-thin lithium metal anode, designed to be integrated into existing Li-ion manufacturing. SolidEnergy says its technology targets a range of end markets including drones, watches and wearables, smartphones, and electric cars. The company was founded in 2012 during the lithium battery industry downturn and is based in Waltham, Mass. CEO Qichao Hu said strategic investors will help the company build an ecosystem through partnerships with equipment suppliers, battery manufacturers, and end users. Financially, SolidEnergy announced a $12M Series B to support those strategic partnerships and continued development.
