100 Wicomico St., Suite 600, Baltimore, MD, 21230, United States

Overview

Sonavi Labs builds Feelix, a digital stethoscope that analyzes lung and body sounds to identify and diagnose respiratory disease. The company received FDA clearance for the Feelix hardware a year earlier. Sonavi closed a seed round this month raising over $3.5 million, supported by Sand Hill Angels of Silicon Valley, Gaingels, Nightingale Partners, Matt Hellauer of PTX Capital and other angel investors, and has two NIH grants totaling over $3 million. It also won $100,000 from the Princeton Empower 2021 pitch competition and $10,000 from Children’s National Hospital through the Bear Institute PACK, and will launch a remote monitoring pilot with the pediatric institution. Sonavi is based in Baltimore, nurtured at Johns Hopkins and ETC’s AccelerateBaltimore program, and operates out of 1100 Wicomico in Pigtown. The company currently has six full-time employees and plans to add about a dozen positions in the coming year. Sonavi Labs develops a digital stethoscope product that combines noise cancellation and AI and is based on technology initially developed by Johns Hopkins scientists. The company holds a license from Johns Hopkins for the Feelix technology, which integrates hardware and software. Its initial stethoscope will be designed to diagnose respiratory disease and does not require internet access. Cofounded in 2017 by CEO Ellington West and CTO Ian McLane, the company is Pigtown-based. After two years of bootstrapping, Sonavi Labs completed its first official fundraising round, raising $1 million in seed funding. Investor names were not disclosed; the company said backers come from the healthcare and scientific community as well as friends and family.
