Overview
Sonire Therapeutics develops a next-generation HIFU therapy system that combines real-time imaging guidance with patented technologies such as a noise-cancellation system, cavitation bubble visualization, a robot-assisted positioning platform and rapid multi-focus scanning. The system is designed to provide precise thermal ablation of tumors in an anesthesia-free, outpatient procedure that can be performed in approximately 20 minutes by a single physician. Sonire positions its therapy as a complement to chemotherapy to potentially prolong overall survival while offering a less invasive alternative to surgery or radiation. Foundational academic work with a prototype (MoonShot-2) demonstrated a 66% disease control rate in advanced or refractory pancreatic and biliary tract cancers and informed the current system. The SUNRISE-I randomized trial (HIFU with chemotherapy vs. chemotherapy alone) is ongoing across seven leading Japanese hospitals. The company holds 25 issued patents and 22 pending, was founded in February 2020 in Tokyo, and is now headquartered in Palo Alto, California; it recently raised $18 million in a Series A to advance clinical, regulatory, and commercialization efforts.
