Sora Schools
447 Broadway, 2nd Floor #1446, New York, 10013, United States
Overview
Sora operates a live, project-based virtual high school organizing its curriculum around student-chosen projects and daily check-ins. Students and teachers communicate via Zoom and Slack, hold twice-daily standups, and participate in Socratic seminars and workshops instead of traditional subject classes. The program includes optional in-person, geography-based cohorts, a network of more than 50 career mentors, SAT/ACT prep, and college counseling services. Enrollment has grown from seven inaugural students to more than 39, supported by three full-time faculty; monthly tuition is charged on a sliding scale of $300–$800 based on parent income. Sora says it has not yet graduated a class and therefore has limited outcome data on post-graduation paths. The company plans to expand faculty, back-end engineering, and curriculum management as it scales and is pursuing partnerships with boot camps, internships, and other alternative postsecondary providers. The model is positioned for self-directed, educationally gifted students and the team acknowledges limitations serving students with special needs and concerns about widening inequality.
