Sound Energy

20 St. Dunstan's Hill, London, England, EC3R 8HL, United Kingdom

Overview

Sound Energy develops the Thermo Acoustic Energy Converter (THEAC), a system that uses sound waves to cool and heat buildings. The THEAC-25 prototype can convert solar-heated water into cold water or air in summer and reverse the process in winter, with claimed cooling temperatures down to -30 degrees Celsius. The company says the technology can deliver up to 50% energy savings, is CO2 neutral, and operates without cooling chemicals or electricity. Sound Energy plans to move to volume production of the THEAC-25 and to start attracting international clients. The company raised €1 million to expand the team and begin mass production. Founder and CEO Herbert Berkhout and long-time researcher Kees Blok (over 20 years on the technology) are named in the announcement.
