Speakly offers a science-based language learning platform built around the statistical relevance of words and sentences to help learners practice common interactions and real-life conversations sooner. The underlying technology — statistical relevance lists and mathematical algorithms — has been developed over several years. Co-founders Ott Ojamets and Ingel Keskpaik, who each speak seven languages, created the approach and lead the company. The startup claims its method is five times faster and ten times more affordable than traditional learning methods. Lessons are currently available in eight languages, including Estonian, English, Russian, Spanish, French, Italian and German. The €900,000 seed round will fund the addition of more languages and new product features.
