Spearhead is a Black-owned African spirits group launched in March 2021 by Chris Frederick and Damola Timeyin, with a portfolio that includes Bayab Gin and Vusa Vodka. Its products are distilled using African botanicals and local ingredients—Bayab uses Zambian baobab and Vusa uses Kwazulu‑Natal sugarcane—positioning the brands on provenance and craft. Since launch the group has sold 35,000 units and accumulated multiple awards and on-trade accounts from London to New York. Spearhead plans to introduce new product lines (including a rum and limited-edition flavoured lines) and to scale marketing as it expands globally. The company also intends to invest in community development in South Africa through a partnership with uMthombo. The funding announced will support the brand's entry into the U.S. market and accelerate its next phase of growth.
