Spire Animation Studios develops feature animation and is integrating real-time game technology into its production pipeline. The studio will use Epic Games' Unreal Engine across its upcoming projects, including the animated feature "Trouble" (a collaboration with Danny McBride’s Rough House Pictures) and a musical titled "Century Goddess." Spire says the Unreal Engine will let it port story assets—worlds and characters—into the metaverse to enable persistent, interactive audience experiences. The company has been working remotely during the pandemic while building its pipeline. Spire plans to use new capital to expand its team, invest in studio technology, and drive creative development. Epic Games will join Spire’s board of directors as part of the partnership.
