Sproutling makes a wearable baby-monitoring system comprising a kidney-shaped Bluetooth ankle wearable, a base station, a small camera and a companion mobile app. The device monitors breathing, heart rate, ambient light, and room and baby temperature, and will alert parents if the child stops breathing. The app surfaces sleep insights and patterns to help parents optimize sleep (ideal temperature, timing) and detect warning signs, and includes a clear video feed for remote viewing. The hardware and camera were designed by the same designers behind the Bugaboo stroller, and the company is a graduate of Lemnos Labs coming out of stealth. Sproutling announced $2.6 million in funding to develop the product and related services. The startup expects to ship the system in Q2 of next year and plans to build additional smart devices and services to "raise parenting IQ."
