Overview
SteerLight, a spin-off of CEA-Leti (Grenoble), develops Lidar modules based on silicon photonics microchips. Its approach replaces mechanical Lidar elements with integrated photonics to deliver improved performance, lower cost, greater compactness and enhanced robustness. A functional demonstrator has been validated in the lab and the company plans to build an industrial-test demonstrator and design its first full prototype. The company intends to commercialize initial sensors for Industry 4.0 applications (helping autonomous robots with safer, faster navigation) and later adapt sensors for infrastructure, smart cities and vehicles in uncontrolled environments. SteerLight aims to develop a second-generation product for industrial and automotive customers targeted at mass production and competitive pricing. Financially, the company closed a €2.0M equity financing and also secured a €1.2M bank loan to continue prototype development and industrial testing.
