    ZuriQ, spun out of ETH Zürich by Dr Pavel Hrmo, Dr Tobias Sägesser and Dr Shreyans Jain, has developed a native two-dimensional trapped-ion architecture that combines electric and static magnetic fields to allow ions to move and connect in two and three dimensions. The company has demonstrated a working 3×3 array of nine individually controlled ions — the largest two-dimensional array of its kind to date — built in collaboration with ETH Zürich and fabricated with partner Infineon. ZuriQ says its architecture is designed to scale qubit counts with chip area, targeting a path toward hundreds to thousands of qubits on a single chip. The company developed its demonstrator in 18 months and has expanded its headcount from four to eighteen since its last funding. With the recent $25.5 million seed raise (following a $4.2 million pre-seed in 2025), ZuriQ plans to accelerate hiring, R&D, and industrial-scale chip fabrication to move toward commercially useful machines.

    Nord Quantique develops a hardware-efficient quantum computing architecture that embeds error correction at the individual qubit level using superconducting bosonic codes. Its design targets a 1:1 logical-to-physical qubit ratio to reduce physical qubit overhead and capital requirements compared with legacy quantum systems. The architecture is said to enable faster clock speeds and data-center-compatible scaling. The company is led by co-founder and CEO Julien Camirand Lemyre and is based in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Financially, Nord Quantique recently raised $30M in growth equity at a $1.4B valuation, and previously secured $16M from the Canadian Quantum Champions Program and $5M in active DARPA Stage B funding with potential for further DARPA funding. The company plans to use recent proceeds to scale engineering operations and advance toward commercially viable, fault-tolerant quantum computers by 2030.

    SBQuantum develops and delivers quantum diamond magnetometry platforms designed for applications in navigation, threat detection, and public safety. Founded in 2017, the company has secured over $15 million in R&D contracts, including work with the Canadian Department of National Defense and the European Space Agency, and already serves several customers. With the closing of a $4 million seed round, SBQuantum plans to expand its team and accelerate development and commercialization of its products. The company has named Eric Giroux as CEO to lead scale-up and commercial efforts and has created a U.S.-based sister corporation, Zero Drift Technologies, in Cambridge, Massachusetts to address U.S. government and defense prime contractor customers while maintaining its Canadian engineering base. SBQuantum intends to fast-track its product roadmap and grow its customer base through renewals and new contract wins in the coming phase.

    Founded in 2021 as a University of Chicago technology spin-out and led by Chairman and CEO Charles Foley, memQ develops quantum networking solutions to enable scalable, distributed quantum computing. Its memQ xQNA portfolio includes quantum network interface controllers (QNICs), quantum memory modules (QMMs), a quantum control system (QCS), and a distributed quantum compiler (xDQC). These components are intended to allow heterogeneous quantum computers to join networks without collapsing quantum states, provide stable quantum memory for entanglement operations, orchestrate qubit and entanglement operations, and distribute workloads for optimal performance. The company emphasizes standards-based connectivity across optical links to enable modular growth, scale-out configurations, cooperative processing, and blind cloud quantum computing. memQ’s portfolio targets secure, high-fidelity, low-loss connectivity across local, campus, metro, and wide-area quantum compute resources. The company announced a $10M Series A in March 2026 co-led by Quantonation and Ocean Azul Partners.

  • Vertical Compute

    Vertical Compute is a Belgian semiconductor startup engineering chiplets in which vertical memory stacks are integrated directly on top of compute logic during 300 mm wafer fabrication. This 3D architecture restructures on-chip data flow and addresses the longstanding “memory wall,” cutting latency and energy use compared with traditional 2D memory layouts. The company has already produced its first test chip demonstrating the concept. With a headcount of 25, Vertical Compute now plans to shift from validation to the commercial rollout of its chiplets for emerging AI platforms. Financially, the startup has secured €57 million to date, including a €20 million round in 2022 and the latest €37 million raise. No revenue figures have been disclosed, but the fresh capital provides runway for scaling manufacturing and bringing its products to market.
