Arq develops networking hardware for the quantum internet, combining rare-earth-doped-crystal-based quantum memories with photon-pair sources to enable long-distance quantum communication over fibre. Its core approach uses multiplexing to store and transmit multiple photons simultaneously, aiming to improve speed and efficiency of quantum links. The company is building quantum repeaters intended to connect quantum computers across long distances. Arq targets applications in telecommunications, financial services, pharmaceuticals and healthcare and is working with research institutions, quantum technology companies and public organisations. Founded in 2025 by Samuele Grandi and Emanuele Distante, the company recently raised $1.4 million in a pre-seed round to fund a laboratory build-out and further development of its quantum memory devices.
