Style Theory operates a fashion rental platform serving Indonesia and Singapore, offering designer apparel and accessories from an inventory of more than 50,000 clothing pieces and 2,000 designer bags. The company has delivered more than one million items since launch and reports subscribers rent up to 20 pieces of clothing and two designer bags per month on average. In addition to its app, Style Theory opened a flagship store on Orchard Road in Singapore and partners with automated lockers, co-working spaces and department stores to improve delivery convenience. The startup uses machine-learning algorithms to personalize clothing and fit recommendations, and has built a customized warehouse management system and distribution network with its own courier fleet. To manage inventory as it scales, Style Theory plans to start using passive RFID tags on rental items. Founders Raena Lim and Chris Halim launched the company in 2016 to reduce waste from fast fashion and plan to introduce new apparel categories in Singapore and Indonesia before possible further expansion in 2020.
