Overview
Sunlight builds Sunlight Edge, a secure, zero-touch and economical Edge-as-a-Service infrastructure that runs on ruggedized edge hardware to consolidate in-location edge applications with isolation, security and high availability. The platform is designed to turn critical edge data into real-time insight and action across remote locations such as retail stores, factories, wind farms and restaurants. The company plans to use the new funds to enhance US-focused commercial growth and to scale its cloud-like Edge-as-a-Service infrastructure platform. Leadership is led by Founder & CTO Julian Chesterfield and new CEO Tom Flink; Flink previously held executive roles at Citrix Systems, RES Software, Forcepoint and Instart Logic. The round brought Sunlight’s total funding to date to $20M. Additionally, the article states Sunlight will use the funds to novo and Avnet Integrated. Sunlight builds a high-performance HCI stack centered on NexVisor, a lightweight hypervisor optimized for NVMe flash and modern networking that reduces virtualization overhead to approach bare-metal performance. The stack includes integrated software-defined storage and networking components plus a single-pane management tool for hybrid deployments and a small footprint suited to edge environments. Sunlight says its platform makes AI, big data, analytics and rendering run 3x faster than legacy virtualization and can cut infrastructure costs by 70%. Enterprises are already using NexVisor to accelerate workloads like Splunk, Elastic Search and Cloudera, and the company has distribution partnerships with Synnex (US), Altos (APAC) and Boston (EMEA). The company is led by founder and CEO Julian Chesterfield, a virtualisation pioneer who was an architect of Xen. Financially, Sunlight closed a $6M Series A and plans to use the funding to expand commercial operations and its footprint, particularly in the US.
