Sunmaxx is a Dresden-based startup that produces combination photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) solar panels which simultaneously deliver electricity and heat into distribution grids. Its PVT design uses solar-derived heat to boil water more cheaply and keeps the thermal collector operating in winter, improving year-round performance. The company plans to launch a 50 MW solar production line in Saxony in the second half of the year. Recent capital will be used to drive uptake of its panels, support project development, expand headcount, and advance solar-hybrid R&D. Investors and partners have praised Sunmaxx's IP and technological advantages versus global competitors and highlighted potential to relocate parts of the solar value chain to Europe.
