Surreal develops enterprise-grade synthetic-media software that can swap faces in uploaded content or generate entirely new images and videos using GAN-based models. The product is sold to enterprise customers and priced per video or picture, with current use cases including e-commerce marketing where generated “models” replace hired talent. The company focuses on lowering content-production costs and is deliberately targeting small and medium-sized customers rather than competing directly with large tech firms. Surreal enforces content-rights checks, adds an encrypted invisible watermark to generated content, and crosschecks created faces against online photos to reduce misuse. The founders are Xu Zhuo (formerly at Snap) and Wang Liang (veteran of ByteDance); the team operates from a 12-person office in Shenzhen and the company is three months old. While Surreal declined to disclose revenue, it said it has accumulated around 10 million photo and video orders and plans to expand into use cases such as online education and to animate clothes and motions.
