Symcat is an online symptom-based, computer-assisted triage tool that asks users about symptoms, age, gender and medical history, then compares inputs to CDC biosurveillance data and AHRQ guidelines to produce probable diagnoses and care recommendations. The product emphasizes concise, actionable guidance rather than encyclopedic content. Founders Craig Monsen and David Do (joined by Tolu Babalola) began conceptualizing the project in June 2011 and released a first prototype in November 2011; the team works out of the Butchers Hill neighborhood. Monsen and Do paused medical school to focus full-time on Symcat for a period and plan to continue developing the product while finishing their residency training. Symcat has participated in the Blueprint Health accelerator and has received grant support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Financially, known funding includes accelerator seed funding and a foundation award, which the team says helped with mentorship and product feedback.
