The Citizenry
22 Crosby St, New York, NY, 10013, United States
Overview
The Citizenry is a DTC home decor company that sources and partners with artisan communities worldwide to produce limited-edition, handcrafted, hand-numbered home goods. The founders, Rachel Bentley and Carly Nance, built a model prioritizing long-term partnerships and fair pay; the company says it pays artisans on average double the local minimum wage. The Citizenry is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization and has been undergoing WFTO verification for over eighteen months. Since its Series A in 2019 the company reports sales growth of over 200%, with repeat customers driving 45% of sales, and it has supported 3,000 global artisan jobs. In October the company opened its first brick-and-mortar store in SoHo, New York City, and it plans to expand its furniture category and scale its brick-and-mortar presence as it develops into a whole-home brand.
