The Local is a Stockholm-based online publisher that produces news in English. Founded in 2004 by Paul Rapacioli and James Savage, it currently publishes editions for Sweden, Germany (thelocal.de and toytowngermany.de) and Switzerland (thelocal.ch). Its core product is local news published online in English for European markets. The company raised SEK 10m in equity financing to support growth. The capital is intended to fund expansion into six new European markets, including France, within 2012. Ownership includes the Sixth AP Fund, IQube and other private investors.
