The Smart Lollipop is a Catalan/Spanish health tech that makes a candy-shaped medical device which analyses saliva to detect disease and replace invasive blood tests. The device is aimed at speeding up medical diagnosis in children by making testing accessible, fun and digital, and can also monitor medical indicators in adults. The company says the candy can help detect conditions such as hypercholesterolemia and celiac disease from saliva samples in the paediatric sector. It plans to begin clinical testing and pursue medical certifications to deploy the device in hospitals and clinical settings. The Smart Lollipop participated in the ISDI Accelerator and UNICEF Lab initiative, which supported development of its prototype and early clinical studies. Financially, the company has just raised €320,000 to start clinical testing and certification processes.
