Overview
Thunder Experience Cloud is a San Francisco, CA-based people-based ad serving platform that lets advertisers create, personalize, optimize and measure ad experiences across channels. Through its system, consumers maintain privacy, publishers safeguard data, and brands gain transparency. On 18 October 2018 the company closed a $6M funding round; the backers were not disclosed. Thunder said it will use the funds to continue to enhance its platform and grow its partner network. The company is led by CEO Victor Wong and has recently appointed Marco Matos as Head of Product and Jack Hallahan as VP of Strategic Partnerships. Matos will oversee the engineering team and product roadmap, bringing over 11 years of product development experience across Microsoft, Google and Facebook, with a focus on brand and cross-channel measurement. Hallahan joins from Celtra and will oversee partnerships and revenue responsibilities for Thunder’s sales and account management teams. PaperG is a San Francisco-based technology platform that enables publishers, agencies and advertisers to generate multiple versions and sizes of ad creatives and automate adaptation to individualized audiences. Led by CEO Victor Wong, the platform streamlines creative production across formats. The company said it will use the new funding to expand operations. PaperG has signed deals with hundreds of agencies, brands and publishers, including Hearst, Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable. The additional capital bolsters its ability to scale product and commercial efforts. The raise was reported by FinSMEs on 30/09/2015. PaperG's Flyerboard is a virtual bulletin-board style online advertising platform that converts retailer-submitted images and basic information into interactive, shareable ads with analytics, billing, maps and social sharing. The product is live on more than 100 local sites through partnerships with publishers including the Los Angeles Times, MediaNews Group, Lee Enterprises, Sun Times Media Group, Hearst, McClatchy, Gannett, New York Times Regional, the Boston Globe, Newsday and the New York Post. Publishers sign revenue-sharing contracts (PaperG takes roughly a 20–30% cut) and advertiser rates generally range from $150 to $400 per week. The Houston Chronicle reported $100,000 in new sales in its first month using Flyerboard; PaperG's CEO says annual revenues are in the millions and that revenues have been growing 70% quarter to quarter over the past year. The company has secured $1.1 million from LaunchCapital, Brian O'Kelley, Mark Potts and Steve Tyler, which the article says should keep cash from being a near-term issue. PaperG faces competition from publishers developing homegrown ad solutions and other hyperlocal platforms, and it has held talks with AOL's Patch but has not signed a formal deal.
