Overview
TinyTap operates a code-free authoring platform and the world’s largest educational games library, with more than 250,000 activities created by over 100,000 creators and serving 9.2 million registered family members. The platform targets young learners (Pre-K to Grade 6) and distributes content to families across the US, Canada, Europe, and the Arab world; it is among the top 10 grossing kids apps worldwide. TinyTap shares subscription revenue with content creators based on user engagement and also allows creators to sell bundles directly to families. Since 2022 the company has been expanding a Web3 strategy, including auctions of Publisher NFTs that grant co-publishing rights and share proceeds with course creators. TinyTap reports that its Publisher NFT genesis auctions generated 243 ETH (≈US$352,000 at auction) and that average income to NFT buyers from co-publishing efforts amounted to ~8.2% (19.7% annualized) of the purchase price. An example buyer earned about $7,823 between November 2022 and March 2024 by co-publishing associated courses. TinyTap, founded in 2012 and based in Tel Aviv, Israel, is a platform that enables teachers to create educational games for students which families worldwide can play. The company offers a premium subscription granting access to a library of 150,000 games in 24 languages. Revenue from the platform is shared between TinyTap and the teacher-creators, providing teachers with an additional source of income. TinyTap has a partnership with Oxford University Press to develop a Learning Plan for English Language Learners. The company plans to use its latest funding to launch newly curated Learning Plans in Mandarin, Arabic, and Spanish and to promote the Oxford partnership. TinyTap is an iPad application that enables users and children to build playable books and games using their own photos, camera shots, music and narrated voice. The app includes pre-made game templates and a built-in drawing tool called TinyTap Artist for creating doodles that can be turned into games. The company plans to launch an iPhone app before December and to roll out three additional game engines by Q1 2013 (voice-sync to words, picture puzzles from photos, and tap-to-hear object games). TinyTap is also building a full-scale Marketplace where creators can sell editable game templates starting at $0.99; that feature was expected to launch in about one month. The founders have refined the user interface since launch and report user numbers “in the hundreds of thousands.” Originally a two-person team (co-founders Yogev Shelly and Oren Elbaz), TinyTap expected to grow to a team of five by the end of the month.
