Founded in 2021 by CEO Ralph Nakhle, Tokidos has developed PLAYCubes, a five-cube modular, screen-free gaming system with square digital displays and insertable game cards that trigger interactive games. The console supports physical interactions (moving, pressing, shaking) and will ship with 20 games at launch in both English and French, with monthly releases thereafter. Tokidos is scripting games in Lua to create a developer-friendly environment and plans to open its game development platform to third-party developers and pursue children’s IP partnerships. The company plans to collect anonymous play data to study games' effects on cognitive, social, and emotional development. Tokidos has secured CA$115,000 in pre-orders and intends to launch the product in September at a retail price of CA$199. The new capital will be used to develop technology and games, build the team, and commercialize the product.
