Tortuga Logic makes a suite of hardware design tools to identify security vulnerabilities throughout the design of a semiconductor. The Palo Alto company plans to use a $2 million seed from Eclipse Ventures to build products that find “lurking vulnerabilities” on computer hardware. The founding team includes Dr. Jason Oberg, Dr. Jonathan Valamehr, Professor Ryan Kastner and Professor Tim Sherwood; the founders received a National Science Foundation grant to support initial commercialization. The team emphasizes addressing hardware security gaps exposed by autonomous vehicles, increasing mobile-device complexity, and supply-chain trust issues for military applications. Tortuga Logic says its automated tooling differentiates it from software-focused cybersecurity firms and internal teams that lack automation. The company already has customers in aerospace and defense.
