Overview

Tractian delivers an integrated hardware and software platform—branded as an Industrial Copilot—that monitors industrial assets, supports physical operations, and helps manage maintenance to prevent unplanned downtime and boost technician productivity. The company leverages proprietary models and large language models to cross‑examine machine utilization, OEM specifications, and operator demands to deliver tailored insights. Tractian says it addresses an estimated 5% of global industrial GDP and highlights the cost of downtime to large companies as a core market pain point. The business employs 200+ engineers focused on R&D across data, software, and hardware, filed 12 patents in 2024, and plans to expand its patent portfolio in 2025 while hiring engineering, data science, and go‑to‑market talent. Tractian is headquartered in Atlanta and maintains offices in Mexico City and São Paulo. The company is the only manufacturing‑focused company named to the Forbes AI 50 list. Tractian builds industrial asset-monitoring systems that combine proprietary sensors, edge computing hardware, and AI models to predict mechanical failures from vibrations and frequency patterns. Founded in 2019 by Igor Marinelli, the company manufactures its own hardware in-house, holds patents on hardware and models, and embeds connectivity in sensors that automatically select the best carrier rather than relying on WiFi. Its AI analyzes machines' “fingerprints” and the platform has about 3,000 models deployed to detect failures such as wear, imbalance, and misalignment. Tractian serves over 500 customers across roughly 1,000 manufacturing plants in industries including food and beverage, automotive, oil and gas, and facilities management, and reports average savings of about $6,000 per machine per year. The company employs nearly 200 R&D engineers focused on data science, data engineering, hardware engineering and firmware development, and estimates its technology currently impacts around 5% of global industrial GDP based on its customer base. With new capital, Tractian plans to expand its AI capabilities, grow its R&D team, enter additional industrial verticals, and continue refining industry-specific models using user feedback. Tractian offers a predictive maintenance product that uses custom sensors to collect vibration, temperature and electrical data from rotational assets and AI models to identify mechanical and electrical faults. Its software layer provides checklists, inspections, diagnostics, recommendations, alerts, scheduling tools and inventory management. The company says its flagship solution is patent pending in the U.S. and that models are trained globally then specialized per machine with customer-validated feedback. Tractian serves roughly 200 customers, including John Deere, Bosch, Embraer and Hyundai. The company has 100 employees and plans to grow to 200 within 18 months. It has raised $19 million in total capital to date and is using new funding to accelerate product development, hiring and geographic expansion into North America. Tractian develops a "smart band-aid" device and platform that monitors machine condition and predicts anomalies to prevent unexpected breakdowns. The company reports that each failure alert saves on average R$84,000. Tractian aims to simplify maintenance by replacing spreadsheets and providing real-time monitoring—cofounder Igor Marinelli likens it to a "Shazam" for machines. The startup serves about 30 industrial clients, including Ambev, Suzano, Embraer, Freios Master, Ciser, Shopping Morumbi, Buaiz Alimentos and Marca Ambiental. It currently has 500 active sensors and a team of 15 employees. Management projects 3,000 active sensors by 2021 and a long-term presence across 10,000 industries, shopping centers and other establishments. The company raised R$2 million in a pre-seed round.
