TrendiTech develops robotics and processing technology to rescue and upcycle misfit and excess foods into nutritious shelf-stable products. Its core products include the BioTrim line and a Smoothie Machine that use end-to-end processing—UV and ozone cleaning, dicing, pureeing, and drying—to produce nutrient-rich fragments or powders called BioFlakes. BioFlakes are about one-tenth the original weight and retain up to 97 percent of original nutrients, flavours and colour. Trendi is developing three BioTrim models (BT80 mobile unit, BT2500 on-site micro plant, and BT25000 standalone macro plant) to serve farms, manufacturers, distributors and communities. The company says it will give the community a first look at its BioTrim mobile unit this summer. Trendi was founded in 2019 and is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. In June 2022 it raised an additional C$6.2M in seed funding, bringing its cumulative seed total to C$8.45M. TrendiTech develops Biotrim mobile processing units that use robotics and AI to upcycle avoidable food waste into a shelf-stable product called Bioflakes. Bioflakes can be repurposed for use in industries including food and beverage, agriculture, packaging, textile, and biofuel. The Biotrim units are currently in production, with a prototype expected to be complete for testing and evaluation in 2022. One unit can upcycle approximately 300,000 kg of food waste annually. The company is led by CEO and co-founder Craig McIntosh. TrendiTech intends to use the recently raised funds to expand operations and broaden its business reach.
