TriEye builds SWIR-based sensors and a proprietary illumination source (branded sedar) intended to provide imaging and depth information for advanced driver assistance and autonomous systems. TriEye uses CMOS semiconductors and is working with major foundries to scale production toward millions of units per year. The company is engaging major OEMs to commercialize sedar on specific vehicle models, while also targeting industrial use cases like food sorting, materials identification, biometrics and surveillance. TriEye focuses on short-wave infrared (SWIR) imaging to address poor-visibility driving conditions such as fog, rain and dust. The company says it has developed an HD SWIR camera that is smaller, higher-resolution and cheaper than existing alternatives, based on advanced nano-photonics research by co-founder and CTO Uriel Levy. TriEye claims a unique semiconductor design that enables manufacturing SWIR HD cameras at a fraction of current costs. The camera was due to launch in 2020, and the company plans to use new funding for product development, operations and hiring.
