- Magnus Metal
Participated · Series B · Apr 2024
Magnus Metal has developed a "digital casting" process that slices designs into layers and creates ceramic forms 4–20 mm thick into which molten metal is dripped and built up layer by layer. Each new layer melts the previous one to bond material and allow impurities to float out, yielding parts the company says have fewer defects and are 10%–20% stronger than traditionally cast parts. The system is positioned as faster than 3D printing, able to use customer-specified materials, and its ceramic bases can be reused for a finite number of parts. Magnus says the approach removes the need for expensive tooling used in sand casting, making lower-volume, complex parts more cost-effective while acknowledging simple parts will still favor sand casting. The company plans to sell both machines and proprietary ceramic feedstock, targeting $500,000 to $1 million of recurring revenue per machine. Magnus Metal has raised a $74 million Series B to support industrialization this year and to begin beta testing at the start of next year.

- TriEye
Participated · Equity · Nov 2021
TriEye builds SWIR-based sensors and a proprietary illumination source (branded sedar) intended to provide imaging and depth information for advanced driver assistance and autonomous systems. The company says its engineering breakthroughs have driven down SWIR costs to compete with conventional cameras and to outperform existing sensors in adverse conditions. TriEye uses CMOS semiconductors and is working with major foundries to scale production toward millions of units per year. The company is engaging major OEMs to commercialize sedar on specific vehicle models, while also targeting industrial use cases like food sorting, materials identification, biometrics and surveillance. CEO Avi Bakal emphasizes cost savings relative to cameras and lidar as key to mass-market adoption. TriEye has built on over a decade of research led by CTO Uriel Levy at Hebrew University. TriEye focuses on short-wave infrared (SWIR) imaging to address poor-visibility driving conditions such as fog, rain and dust. The company says it has developed an HD SWIR camera that is smaller, higher-resolution and cheaper than existing alternatives, based on advanced nano-photonics research by co-founder and CTO Uriel Levy. TriEye claims a unique semiconductor design that enables manufacturing SWIR HD cameras at a fraction of current costs. The camera was due to launch in 2020, and the company plans to use new funding for product development, operations and hiring. The team includes expertise in deep learning, nano-photonics and semiconductor components. TriEye was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Israel.
