Overview

Truthset is a San Francisco, CA-based data validation-as-a-service company led by CEO Scott McKinley. It provides a big data platform for measuring consumer data accuracy and enabling segment validation against a census-calibrated database of 1.27 billion hashed emails and 147 million households. The platform is used by brands, agencies, media, and measurement companies, powering TelevisaUniversal’s Hispanic Data Graph and measuring first-party data and targeted campaigns for Heineken. Truthset raised $5M in Series A funding led by Data Point Capital with participation from other investors. The company intends to use the funds to continue enhancing its products and to launch additional solutions addressing identity resolution and third-party cookie deprecation. Truthset builds a platform that scores consumer marketing data on accuracy using a 0.00–1.00 scale. It generates those scores by checking purchased data against independent sources of truth, first-party data and panels rather than building its own datasets. The product integrates with demand-side platforms, data management platforms and customer platforms and is compatible with major data providers including Facebook, LiveRamp and The Trade Desk. The platform can suppress consumer IDs that don’t meet a marketer’s standards so they aren’t used in targeting. Truthset emphasizes independence to avoid conflicts of interest while working with data providers to score and improve their accuracy. The company has just exited stealth and has raised seed financing to support its launch and go-to-market efforts.
