Overview

TuneIn aggregates live, on-demand and original audio content across sports, music, news, podcasts and audiobooks. The network serves 75 million monthly active users and features over 120,000 owned & operated and partner radio stations plus more than 5.7 million on-demand programs. Its service is available for free across 200 platforms and connected devices, and a premium tier offers live NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL coverage, 90,000+ audiobooks and commercial-free music stations. The company was founded in 2002 by Bill Moore and is led by CEO John Donham. TuneIn will use new funding to expand operations and to pay for rights to live sporting events and original programming. The company has raised $140M to date. TuneIn aggregates live audio and on-demand content, featuring over 70,000 FM, AM, HD and online radio stations and 2 million on-demand programs. In April it surpassed 1 billion listening hours for the year and in March powered 227 million listening sessions lasting more than 60 seconds. The service reports about 40 million active listeners in over 230 countries and territories, with the majority of growth coming from mobile (described as "triple-digit growth") and notable adoption in the automotive market where it is available on over 30 platforms. TuneIn recently launched TuneIn Live and rolled out a major desktop redesign. CEO John Donham said the company will use the new financing to continue investing in content and product and to build more services for broadcasters, including the ability to substitute local ads with more targeted messages. The company acknowledges competition from walled‑garden platforms like Clear Channel's iHeartRadio but says the market is still early and its goal is to "have everything." TuneIn is an online radio service that provides free access to 70,000 stations and 2 million on-demand programs. The company reports 40 million monthly active listeners and had grown 267% year-over-year as of last month. TuneIn’s open platform offers radio stations better analytics and revenue-share opportunities and is available on many platforms including in-car entertainment systems. CEO John Donham says the company’s mission is to deliver the best listening experience possible and that the new funding will support that goal. TuneIn plans to use the capital to scale its technical and business operations worldwide, increase headcount, and grow product development and marketing. The company believes much audio currently not carried on terrestrial radio can attract large online audiences when made available on its platform.
