Overview
Typewise develops a privacy-first honeycomb keyboard app that uses advanced autocorrection AI and a hexagonal layout to reduce typos and increase typing speed. The app supports 40+ languages without manual switching and is available in free and paid Pro versions. It has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times globally, with rapid uptake in Europe, North America and LATAM. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Zurich, Typewise plans to expand into the B2B market with an autocorrect and text prediction API, an SDK, and a browser extension. The company intends to use the newly raised funds to grow its keyboard user base and accelerate development of the B2B product suite, which it plans to launch in Q4 2021. Typewise develops a typo-busting, privacy-safe next-word prediction engine designed to run entirely on-device (no cloud connectivity or data mining). Its consumer product is a smartphone keyboard app with a distinctive honeycomb layout; the app has ~250,000 downloads and about 65,000 active users. The company supports more than 35 keyboard languages in the app, while its next-word AI currently handles English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. Typewise is collaborating with ETH Zurich (including Prof. Thomas Hofmann) and has ML PhDs/MSc on the team to build the core models. The longer-term plan is to license the offline prediction engine to other applications (desktop, wearables, VR, B2B software) and to grow from the keyboard as a first use case. They plan product improvements, UX innovations and marketing spend to try to reach 1M active users next year.
